Talks & Outreach

My work spans academic presentations, talks on study abroad and research careers, science communication, and undergraduate chemistry teaching and mentoring at UBC. This page introduces these activities by area.

Academic Talks & Presentations

My academic presentations focus on synthetic and coordination chemistry, platinum complexes, and the relationships among molecular structure, reactivity, and photophysics. I present the research question, design logic, and evidence from synthesis and structural analysis—not only the final result.

  • CSC 2026

Oral and poster presentations. The poster presentation received The Organometallics – Best Graduate Poster Award, a CSC 2026 graduate poster prize sponsored by Organometallics.

  • ISMSC 2025

Poster presentation on cyclometalated platinum complexes. Recipient of an Excellent Poster Award.

  • NIMS Frontier Molecules Group Seminar

Research seminar on molecular structure and reactivity in cyclometalated platinum complexes.

    Official NIMS seminar announcement

  • CSC 2024

    Oral presentation.

  • CSC 2023

    Poster presentation.

Study Abroad & Career Talks

Anamizu High School

Lecture for high school students on studying abroad and international education.

Chuo University

Two-part lecture on graduate study abroad and Seiya Ota’s research in coordination chemistry. Topics included doctoral study as a career path, experience in industry R&D, differences between doctoral study in Japan and Canada, language learning, and research life at UBC.

Science Communication

ChemColle

A collaborative science-communication project with friends. It explains familiar materials and technologies from a molecular perspective while balancing accessibility with chemical accuracy.

Rikei Ryugaku no Susume

First-hand information in Japanese about PhD study, research abroad, and research careers.

Teaching & Mentoring

At UBC, I have supported undergraduate chemistry education as a Teaching Assistant. My work includes laboratory instruction, safe experimental practice, data interpretation, and support with reports and presentations. I also mentor undergraduate researchers from experimental planning through communicating their results.

Speaking and collaboration

Topics can be adapted for universities, schools, research groups, and companies in Japanese or English. Enquiries are welcome about graduate study abroad, research careers, chemistry, and science communication.
